Custom webpages and applications are built from scratch in order to quickly deploy the site using the latest and most cost-effective technologies.  The basic server setup to run the site and its features include:

•  Web Server:
   Red Hat Linux Enterprise 4 (Apache)
  


•  Programming Languages:
   PHP, HTML, AJAX, CSS (stylesheet), and XML for RSS feeds
  


•  Database:
   MySQL 4.1 (along with MySQL Browser and PHPMyAdmin)
  


•  Development Tools:
   Adobe Dreamweaver (FTP) and Adobe Photoshop

All of ION-E’s programmers and designers code by hand to ensure that the design is not altered by WYSIWYG or other similar webpage editors.  We can program using Cold Fusion, ASP, or Microsoft SQL Server but licensing and development fees would make it cost prohibitive along with it being proprietary to one platform versus PHP and MySQL which have no licensing fees or closed architecture.

The availability of our support team is Monday – Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.  However, ION-E’s helpdesk provides daily 24-hour technical support to over 1,000 clients worldwide.  Our staff is typically available for meetings either on-site, via teleconference or at our office within a few days notice (excluding urgent matters).

The design process begins by working with the client to assess various types of content that will drive visitors to the site.  To gather content, we assign content portions to teams or individuals.  For example, one team or individual may be responsible for a set list of content such as the menu or photo gallery.  After receiving all necessary content, we create time schedules for completion.

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT LIFE CYCLE

• Code Review

Our developers all use a control versioning system, Subversion, to check code in and out on a daily basis.  Any code that is submitted by a junior developer must be verified by a senior developer in the testing environment.  If it is ready for production it is then included with the next nightly deployment.

• Testing

All of our applications are developed and tested in a “beta” environment that allows us to view new source code without placing it on a live webpage.  Our programmers can then work out any compatibility or security issues without putting customer data at risk.

• Deployment

We have developed our own in-house deployment system that replicates code changes and database schema alterations using a combination of control versioning and command line utilities.  The nature of the build scripts allow us to ensure every site is running the same source code and specifications, which in turn provides a much higher level of security on customer webpages.
